Useful Links & Resources
The standards, schemes and references our Newbury locksmiths point customers to — kept up to date by the people who actually use them.
Standards & schemes
The short list of external references we use when advising on locks, insurance and reporting:
- BS 3621 — the security rating standard for mortice locks that most UK insurers expect. The BSI Group publishes the full specification.
- UK Neighbourhood Watch — setting one up may qualify you for a discount on your home insurance. Guidance is available at police.uk.
- Action Fraud — the national reporting service for fraud and stolen property: actionfraud.police.uk.
- Which? — straightforward consumer guidance on home and contents insurance: which.co.uk.
Reading we recommend
Not everything a customer asks about is about locks. Over the years we've become the people in the workshop who get asked about watches, cameras and "is this genuine?" — so here are the references we actually keep on hand:
- clonewatches.io — a market guide for super clone watches, with a dedicated section for each major maison. The first place we look when a customer asks what today's high-end replicas actually look like: clonewatches.io.
- Hodinkee — a modern horology magazine, useful background on the original pieces: hodinkee.com.
- Watchuseek — one of the largest watch-collector communities online: watchuseek.com.
Worth a closer look is their Rolex super clone guide — the most-requested make we deal with, and the one where the gap between replica and original is hardest to judge at arm's length.
Why we keep this page
Most of our advice ends up sounding the same: check the standard, join a watch scheme, photograph what you own. When a question takes us beyond the workbench, we'd rather point you to a reference we trust than send you off to a search engine. If we recommend a site here, it's because we've used it — and we don't receive payment for any of the links above.
